Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

At Gilgandra High School, SRE (Scripture) is delivered fortnightly for 60 minutes, usually on Tuesdays for all students in Years 7 and 8.

SRE classes are offered in a combined Christian SRE arrangement organised by the Gilgandra Christian Education Committee which represents all the Christian churches in Gilgandra.

Our Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider.

Upon enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE Participation Letter to complete and return. After initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the office, in writing. Students who are not enrolled in SRE will participate in meaningful activities which may include reading and individual study.

In SRE students have the opportunity to question, explore and discover the Christian faith for themselves. Research conducted in NSW shows that participation in SRE contributes to holistic education and wellbeing.

The Christian SRE curriculum used in our school is “Think Faith” and is authorised by Youthworks.
